Twinsburg | Twins Days

I’ve always been interested in the communities people create around the things that make them different.

For Twinsburg, I travelled to Twinsburg, Ohio, to photograph Twins Days, an annual gathering of thousands of twins and multiples and a celebration of the strange intimacy of having a double.

The festival is part parade, part spectacle, part reunion. There are matching outfits, elaborate costumes, beauty contests, performances and endless variations on the idea of being two.

What interested me was the space between sameness and individuality. The small differences in how people dress, pose and present themselves. The way a shared identity can become a form of personal expression.

A study of belonging, identity and the visual language of being part of a crowd, while still standing apart from it.
